Checking your tyres

It’s amazing that so many people pay such scant attention to their tyres.

If you’re travelling at 70mph on the motorway, four little 20-square-centimetre pads of rubber are all that sits between you and a potential accident.

If you’re happy with riding around on worn tyres, that’s fine, but don’t expect them to be of any help if you get into a sticky situation.

The key of course, is to check your tyres regularly.

If you’re a motorcyclist, do it every night before you lock the bike up.

For a car, maybe once a week. You’re looking for signs of adverse tyres wear (see the section above).
